(FOUR) JOHN MAYER – BORN AND RAISED
Mayer grew his hair out and looks like a dirty hippie. I guess this means he’s “grown” since his TMZ, Jessica Simpson, private life stuff we were all subjected too. He had that whole “Playboy” interview problem where said his “penis is racist” or something crazy. The problem is that I like this guy. He’s entertaining and I like his music. It’s not something I’d listen to regularly, but I can’t hate on soul rock with really good guitar work. Not every song is great, but overall I approve.
(THREE) TENACIOUS D – RIZE OF THE FENIX
It’s been forever since Tenacious D released an album. A few weeks ago, this album came out. I’ve not heard it yet, but I intend to as soon as I can. I wonder if their humorous take on metal is still humorous. Jack Black has made a few kid movies since back in the day. This will be a test to see if he’s lost his balls. I’m SURE this will be AT LEAST hilarious.
(TWO) JACK WHITE – BLUNDERBUSS
It’s Jack White. He’s the best thing in rock and roll right now. Our generation gets to tell future generations that this was “our guy”. He’s going to be held in the same regard as the icons of music. If you’re not on board with this then you’re missing out.
(ONE) MARILYN MANSON – BORN VILLAIN
Goth rock isn’t dead. It’s sleeping. Manson has gone through his ups during his glory days and his downs during his less successful times. I for one, really dug the 2009 release The High End of Low. This lastest release seems pretty solid as well. I’ve only gotten about five or six songs in, but I can already tell this album is going to be a sleeper pick in 2012. There seems to be a rawness and aggression coming out that we’ve not heard since the 90’s “Anti-christ” days. If you’ve ever enjoyed a Marilyn Manson song you should give this a try. What else are you going to listen to? LMAFO? Some “Hackers” extra looking DJ? Give metal a chance.
