(FOUR) THE BUTTAFUOCO/AMY FISHER STORY
There were like twenty made for TV movies about this back when there were still only like ten channels. This older sleazy guy hooked up with a young woman. She got crazy and shot his wife IN THE FACE. Crazy! Luckily the woman survived. Fisher only served six years and is now a porn actress. Buttafuoco does radio and bad F-list celebrity appearances. Ugh.
(THREE) TONYA HARDING/NANCY KERRIGAN
Tonya Harding was a really talented skater, but not as talented as Nancy Kerrigan. Harding knew this and hired a guy to attack Kerrigan and break her right leg. This meant she couldn’t compete. It’s horrible in retrospect, but I can still recall her cries of “why?”. Rough stuff. It came out that she was part of it, but she still used the legal system to keep her spot on the US team. Bitch came in eighth. Meanwhile, Kerrigan would recover, compete, and win a silver metal. Booyah!
(TWO) THE BOBBITTS
Lorena Bobitt took a knife and cut off her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt’s penis while he was sleeping. It was reattached and her reason was that raped her. Fair enough. Being a proud penis-owner, I think raping someone is a good reason to have hell inflicted upon me. Rape is no laughing matter. The fact that she took the penis, got her in car, threw it out of the window, and THEN decided to call 911. It was reattached and she was eventually ruled not guilty due to insanity. This story proved that if you’re too much of a dick, you’ll get yours… or lose yours. Either way.
(ONE) OJ SIMPSON
This was the number one for sure. The mid 90’s and beyond saw OJ Simpson go from a former athlete turned actor to a accused murdered and media target. If OJ Simpson sneezed we knew about it. The murder trial was crazy, but I’m summarizing the whole experience. The white Bronco chase, the trial, the interviews, and the fall out were captured by the media in a really heinous way. All of the pop-media at the time was heinous. Well, back then it at least seemed heinous. Now it’s a Tuesday on TMZ.
