(FOUR) PM DAWN
I’m not going to lie. Until writing this paragraph I thought PM Dawn was one person. Even stranger, I thought it was a woman. For some reason I always lumped “PM Dawn” and “MC Lyte” in the same grouping in my head. Now that I’m looking at info about this MALE DUO, I can totally remember them. Never the less, the name “PM Dawn” is pretty nifty. You see “PM” means night time… and “dawn” is in the morning… so it’s like an oxymoron… or something. I’m just shocked PM Dawn isn’t a woman.
(THREE) JODECI
Made up words are good. It’s a sloppy collaboration of the letters of the member’s names. I get that. Still, the word “Jodeci” sounds cool. It just sounds like something that should be cool. Then again, it also sounds like a bad skin disease. “ah man! I got Jodeci of my balls!”… Maybe not.
(TWO) DE LA SOUL
It almost sounds Hispanic. This pioneering hip hop trio was pretty damn good. They weren’t like the others at the time. They had more of an intellectual approach and brought jazz rap to the forefront. The song “Me Myself and I” was and still is awesome. The name just sounds cool. And really, who can hate “souls”?
(ONE) A TRIBE CALLED QUEST
“A Tribe Called Quest” is not only a great name, it’s also one of the most influential acts in hip hop history. A few of the guys were childhood friends and came up together. They went with a few names, but in 88 it was settled on. Good call, A Tribe Called Quest! Good call!
