BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER
(FOUR) BEN GLEIB
I frequently listen to Ben Glieb’s podcast. My favorite episodes are when he’s by himself. He’ll get rambling and going on certain news topics and take it in directions unexpected. He’s also been on the panel of Chelsea Lately many times. He does stand up and is really just getting out there more and more. In 2006 he got a pilot sold to Fox, but the show was only shown on college campuses. The thing of interest is that the show was produced by Lorne Michaels and his Broadway Video. I could see Glieb as a Weekend Update anchor or in the very least a political correspondent.
(THREE) KUMAIL NANJIANI
Kumail has paid his dues and is just starting to get his props. He’s been on “Portlandia” and has done random acting projects. His stand up is sharp and he’s been on the major talk shows and was spent a little time with The Colbert Report. He’s entertaining and brings a fresh perspective. And he started up in Chicago. That’s bonus points!
(TWO) TREVOR MOORE
He has spent years writing and starring in the comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’ Know”. For those who didn’t watch it, you missed out. Trevor Moore was a reason why. He was my favorite part of the show. I don’t understand how he’s NOT on SNL. He can play characters, has the writing experience, and is from a different world than the typical SNL casting. He’s still a young guy and could easily be a stand out star on SNL if presented the opportunity.
(ONE) JAMES ADOMIAN
This guy should be on SNL right now. He has a great collection of impressions, his stand up is awesome, and he’s a really likeable dude. He has that charming grit that the original cast had. I’ve seen his stand up and interviews. He’s insane, but in the good way. His Jesse Ventura, Paul Giamatti, Al Franken, Jimmy Kimmel, Sam Elliot, Lewis Black, Gary Busey, George W. Bush, Alan Rickman, and even his Hacksaw Jim Duggan are all kick ass. I love me some Bill Hader, but this guy gives him a run for the money in his impressions. In the impression world you can either be on the lamer more “awe-shucks” side like a Frank Caliendo or you can make it an art like Bill Hadfer. Adomian in the Hader group for sure. If I could pick anyone out there to be added to the cast, it would be this guy.
