(FOUR) ONE STEP CLOSER
I’m not a Linkin Park fan, but I’ve heard about 75% of their work. I don’t hate them, but they’re just not for me. That said, if I had to pick a “Top 4” I’d have to include “One Step Closer”. This was a pretty popular song at the time. It’s probably going to be one of those turn of the millennium classics. It wasn’t too much like anything else out there and definitely stood out. When this song comes on the radio it’s a certain level of comfortable cheese. This and “Last Resort” by Papa Roach. It’s just embedded into my generation. I probably know half the words still too…. Yeeesh.
(THREE) FAINT
From their second studio album Meteora is number three. I enjoyed the way the video looked and the song is one of the better Linkin Park tunes I can think of. It got tons of radio play and non-fans seemed to tolerate it and fans seemed to love it. That’s success for any artist.
(TWO) MY DECEMBER
I’m not sure what album this is on, but I always thought it was the best song of any of the Linkin Park tunes I heard. It was a mellow and down tempo tune, but it was VERY well done. The melody is pretty remarkable and gets stuck in my head more often than it should.
(ONE) NUMB/ENCORE
Is this cheating because it’s a “Mash Up”? I dunno, but I’m going with it. “Numb/Encore” was a really cool blend of two popular songs. Jay Z brings his “Encore” to the table and they bring “Numb”. A lot of the time this kind of thing can suck, but on this one it works very nicely. Also, anything involving Jay Z is bound to get some extra points… except the New Jersey/Brookyln Nets. They don’t get points.
