(FOUR) DX AS NATION OF DOMINATION
Watching this now, it’s lame. It’s full of poop jokes and race jokes. They wear black face! It’s pretty damn uncomfortable. X-Pac as “Mizark Henry” was just really bad. The problem here is that everything that makes me uncomfortable and embarrassed about this now is why I loved it as a kid. From that perspective, it’s funny and obviously memorable.
(THREE) JAY LETHAL AS MACHO MAN
The only non-WWE pick on today’s list is Jay Lethal. For what felt like a few years, this guy worked PPV, TV, and the road doing a GREAT Macho Man impersonation. It was so damn good that they just made it his gimmick. He was a great part of TNA while it lasted. I’m sure with the passing of Randy Savage that Lethal will probably not bust out his cowboy hats and shades anytime soon. He’s doing well on his own anyway. Regardless, his “Macho” should go down in history as one of the best homages of all time.
(TWO) SHAWN MICHAELS AS HULK HOGAN
During the 2005 feud with Hogan Shawn Michaels showed some of that Attitude Era edge and cockiness. He “shot” on Hogan and got a little personal. Everyone knew HBK was a better wrestler and performer, but Hogan just HAD to win. Michaels made the best of it by making Hogan look like a fool and still proving he’s the best by pulling a half-decent match out of the fossil. One of the plot points in the feud was Michaels doing a mock interview dressed up like Hulk Hogan. I wish we got more of this side of Michaels before he retired.
(ONE) DX AS THE MCMAHONS
Triple H put on a suit and a bad wig to be Vince McMahon. Shawn Michaels wore the gaudy red jump suit and wore a horrible wig of his own to be Shane McMahon. Triple H was good, but Michaels was GREAT. The whole dancing around thing and all the weird and hilarious jabs at Shane was great. Of all the recent DX run, this may have been the best segment of the bunch. It’s not a great segment, but it’s memorable and that counts for more than we ever give credit for. This is going to be one of those “go-to” historic clips that’ll always be part of the company’s lineage.
