(FOUR) PRE-DIGITAL/SATELLITE CABLE
This sucked. Back in the day this was our only option. It would get staticy all the time, we’d have to pay an arm and leg for 60 channels. We were excited about those 60 channels too. We’d have to wait for PPV to order it. There was nothing on-demand or in HD. It was basically normal non-cable TV with a few dozen extra channels and more risk for static. I appreciated it at the time, but I never want to have to deal with that shit again.
(THREE) THE VANCOUVER GRIZZLIES
When Vancouver had a NBA basketball team, life was good. They and the Toronto Raptors were added to the league. The Grizzlies wanted build their team around “Big Country” Bryant Reeves. That didn’t exactly work out, but they still had some good players. They never really had a shot though. It was just a weird team. It felt like the NBA was playing an exhibition against a foreign team.
(TWO) PENCIL WARS AT SCHOOL
There were a few varieties of these wars. I hate them all. You hold a pencil out while the person you’re playing against tries to snap their pencil down to break yours. You can keep breaking each other’s pencils, but in the streets it was rough. We’d keep playing with the same pencil. The risky and horrible part is holding smaller and smaller pieces of a pencil until one person can’t take it anymore. It’s hellacious! Then the other way is even more barbaric. It’s more a “knuckles game”. Instead of popping a pencil to break a pencil you hit your opponent’s knuckles. First blood rules. What the hell were we thinking?!
(ONE) CHEAP FILM CAMERAS
People normally have three types of cameras these days. You can go with the easy digital, you can go with a fancy photographer-style camera, of you can be cheap and go with a one-and-done disposable camera. Back in the day we’d have to deal with shitty cheap cameras. We’d have to reload shitty film into the camera and then take the film to get developed. I know this still kind of happens, but it’s a rare thing. I can’t remember the last camera I’ve taken a picture with or been taken of that had this old school cheap film camera.
