(FOUR) 30 ROCK
Steve Buscemi does tons of cool stuff, but when he popped up on “30 Rock” as the creepy private investigator it was a real treat. He didn’t just show up for a cameo, he shows up all the time. Since first appearing in 07 he has popped up on five episodes. He’ll find out whatever Jack wants to know, but he’ll also share a little too much. It’s a small role, but it adds to any episode he’s on. Steve Buscemi is cool like that.
(THREE) BILLY MADISON
This was a fun role. Steve Buscemi is uncredited in this movie, but his role was awesome. He plays a creepy former high school classmate of Billy Madison. He was bullied and had a lot of enemies in school. He grew older and crazier as an adult and decided to start taking out people that were on his “list”. This turns out to be really funny. He’s probably only on camera for like three minutes tops, but he makes the movie that much cooler.
(TWO) AIRHEADS
I love this movie. I think I love this movie more than I should. I’m just a sucker for early 90’s comedies, especially ones with SNL ties. Steve Buscemi plays a slacker rocker who, along with Brendan Fraser and Adam Sandler, get caught up in a radio station hostage incident. It sounds horrible and bad, but in 1994 the world was safer and these things could be joked about a lot more. It was just a fun movie. A long haired and dirty Buscemi is awesome. I can’t think of any other movie where his character is anywhere close to this one. In the lineage of his awesome movies this role really stands out to me. I wish more people would go back and check this forgotten gem out. So underrated.
(ONE) THE BIG LEBOWSKI
Duh. I’d never say it out loud, but I wonder how many people see Steve Buscemi in public and want to say “Shut the fuck up, Donny!” As Donny in The Big Lebowski, he plays the tag-a-long friend of Jeff Bridge’s “The Dude” character and his awesome asshole friend “Walter” played by John Goodman. Donny’s character has a big purpose and kind of serves as the heart and eventually the turning point of the movie. Everyone knows a Donny. You want to and even might say “Shut the fuck up, Donny!” but you know he’s there till the end and that loyalty and love makes up for the rest. Steve Buscemi has done some awesome things in his career. He has had great cameos, great supporting roles, and great lead roles. I’m always going to be a fan and I’m always going to be interested in seeing him do his thing. He is constantly involved with great projects and this might be the greatest.
