4 Things I Don’t Miss V.9

(FOUR) SISTER: RUDY HUXTABLE
What I’m trying to do here and pick the best of the best and make the “super sitcom family”. I’m not looking at anything specific other than the dynamic, personality, and character. We’re going to go with the standard old school family formula for these shows. A sister, a brother, a mother, and a father. Sometimes there’s a baby, but we’ll skip it for now and just assume it’s the cutest baby of all time. Only rule is that we can’t double up on any shows. So for the “little sister” in this super family I’m going to have to go with Rudy Huxtable. She was a cute little kid who got into crappy situations, had creative stories, cool friends, and had a cool stuffed saxophone until times got tough.

(THREE) BROTHER: MIKE SEAVER
The older brother has to be someone awesome. While I don’t agree with a lot of what the actor says these days, the character Mike Seaver was awesome. “Growning Pains” has to be one of the most underrated shows of all time. It’s better than “Roseanne” or “Fresh Prince” but it rarely ever gets the mass rerun love. One of the best parts of the show was watching the sarcastic scammer teenager grow up from being a high school aged Dennis The Menace or Bart Simpson to being a half-decent adult.

(TWO) MOTHER: JUNE CLEAVER
I was leaning towards going with Roseanne, but no one can deny the power of June Cleaver. She kept her home perfect, her family fed and happy, and she could do anything. She was never in a bad mood and somehow managed to run the perfect family all while wearing pearls and having her hair set perfectly. Could she pull that off in the future? Probably not as much but it would be fun to see her try while dealing with modern distractions and nonsense. You just KNOW she’s be over-posting on facebook.

(ONE) FATHER: HOWARD CUNNINGHAM
Howard Cunningham doesn’t get the props he deserved. The show “Happy Days” is an all-time classic, but it seems like Fonzie is the icon of the show. “Mr. C” was the best TV dad for sure. There are plenty of fathers from TV history that could be on this list, but “Mr. C” had the all-American charm of a June Cleaver but also a more realistic sensibility. The first thing I think of is when Richie misses his big free throw at the basketball game. His dad doesn’t harp or make fun of him. He breaks the tension and teaches a lesson so smoothly and casually just by asked “Do you want a life saver?” Awesome stuff.
