(FOUR) THE SCIENCE FAIR -VOLCANO GAG
This is an old sitcom thing. The idea of a kid making a crappy volcano for school is a recurring theme. They’ll work sometimes and spew crappy lava and sometimes it fails. Regardless, it’s a BIG event in the show. It just seems like I’ve not seen this plot device used in long time. I miss it. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m repressing childhood anxiety that I never got to make my own volcano. Deep.
(THREE) 90’S DIVA R&B GROUPS
Envogue, TLC, Salt N’ Pepper, and it goes on. For a while there in the 90’s there was some really talented females putting out good pop and R&B music. These groups put out catchy tunes that had a bit more realness and substance behind them. It’s not like that anymore. It’s watered down and lame. If Envogue was around when Destiny’s Child was on TRL every five minutes then Beyonce wouldn’t be shit right now.
(TWO) MATRIX BULLET EDITING
For a while you’d see TONS of movies try to do this. The Matrix is one of the best movies of all time. People seem to forget that because of the sequels being a little bad. The Matrix bullet thing was awesome. It’s a slowed downed down point of view bullet thing where we see the air ripple as the bullet slowly pierces the sky. It was ripped off and parodied a billion times, but it was a really cool effect. It’ll come back around in some form again before too long.
(ONE) JOE CAMEL
Advertising cigarettes has become harder and harder for the evil cigarette companies. I had a long bout with cigarette addiction, but I’m happy to be past it now. I don’t hate on smokers or anything. In fact, there are some aspects about smoking I miss and still think are cool. The imagery is always interesting. A smoky room and messy ash tray is just cool looking in the right light and proper framing. Another cool visual is the mascots and icons that goes with the cigarettes. The Marlboro Man was the big one, but I never got too behind the “cancer cowboy”. I always thought Joe Camel was awesome. He was a camel version of a pimp. He just seemed like a lot of fun to hang out with.
