BY MICHAEL GOODPASTER
(FOUR) HOGAN/GOLDBERG July 6th 1998 Nitro. I hated this part of WCW. I was not a fan of Goldberg and Hogan was wishy washy with me. This was nothing I ever cared about, but I appreciate its historic impact. Goldberg was the United States Champion at the time and was the hottest thing in wrestling. He had the huge win streak, he was over as hell, and the moment he Jack-Hammered and pinned Hogan was one of the craziest sights ever.
(THREE) HOGAN/WARRIOR Wrestlemania 6 was a big deal because Hogan finally fought someone who could hang with him in the ring presence department. The Warrior might not have been the best wrestler of all time, but neither was Hogan. Both guys were big juiced up dudes who had larger than life personalities. They finally went face to face on this show and put out a memorable match. Wrestling as we know it could have changed as we know it if Warrior’s momentum at this point would have went stronger in a different direction.
(TWO) JERICHO/AUSTIN
This was a weird one to include, but I MUST. The WWE and WCW were together, the Invasion was about over, and no one cared who was from there. They just wanted an entertaining product and good wrestling. They had to unify the belts before moving on though. So at the “Invasion” PPV, it all broke down in a four man tournament. One side was the WCW title and the other was the WWE. The Rock and Jericho fought for the WCW Title and Austin and Kurt Angle was going at it over the WWE belt. Jericho beat The Rock and then Austin beat Angle. These two final champions then would face off in a winner-takes-all “Unification Match”. Tomfooleries went down, but Jericho came out victorious in a really cool and memorable moment.
(ONE) HBK/RAZOR
WrestleMania X. Shawn Michaels was the IC champ and left for a while. He was gone too long and should have been stripped, but returned and showed up with his belt like it was business as usural. Meanwhile, Razor Ramon won the vacant title and was doing his thing. The answer to this was hanging both belts in the air and making them use a ladder to bring them down. The result was one of the best and most awe inspiring matches of all time.
