(FOUR) XANTA CLAUS
The year: 1996.The show : “In Your House”. The moment: Santa Claus attacks Savio Vega! Santa heel turned and joined up with the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase! It was craaaaazy. We’d soon find out this was not REALLY Santa, but rather Xana Klaus from the South Pole! This would not last very long. It turns out this guy would go on to play another odd character named “Balls Mahoney”. Yeah! Former ECW Tag Champion!
(THREE) GOLDUST: THE X-MAS TREE!
Goldust was being a freak at the time. Like even moreso than normal. He was getting into bright colors and bondage. He had the legendary and someday soon Hall of Famer Luna Vachon at his side. He would crawl out, he’d use a ball gag, and he’d just let his freak flag fly. Come Christmas time he came out covered in lights as a human Christmas tree. That is the day I stopped believing in Santa… and potentially God.
(TWO) HBK VS. HHH FOR THE EUROPEAN TITLE
This was when DX was going full steam. It was post-Screw Job so DX was pretty much running the show and the attitude era was really starting to explode. At one point Shawn Michaels had both the European Title and the World title. It was said he HAD to defend his European Title against Triple H, his own friend and lacky! Shawn and Triple H over acted and went to fight. Michaels laid down for him and the match was over as quick as a 1-2-3. The overacted and silly celebration afterwards always stood out in my brain as a really fun moment. Maybe my favorite Triple H moment in general.
(ONE) TRIBUTE TO THE TROOPS
This is always a good one. For years the WWE put on the “Tribute to the Troops” show during the Christmas season. These shows are fluffy goodness. The good guys win, the women show off and wave, evil is overcame, laughter is shared, smiles are earned, and the WWE comes off looking like Mother Teresa. I’d often get annoyed that the normal storylines and tone would shift for a week, but I’ve grown to appreciate the tradition.
