(FOUR) THE LOOK
Things about this show came and went, but one consistent factor of this show that rocked was how it was presented. It was almost like you were watching a moving comic. For a network TV show, the effects were actually pretty decent but that’s not all. The opening scene, the eclipse logo flashing, the title of the show’s text blended into the first scene, the font used to introduce the characters and their locations any given episode, and so on and so on. Once you got into the show, the look of it and the consistency of these little things always made it easy to get lost into this world of super heroes and super villains.
(THREE) THE STORY
Yeah, in later seasons it was “hit or miss”. I just tend to think it was more “hit” than “miss”. I know I’m probably in the minority on that, but I enjoyed each season on its own merit as time went on. Many folks say season one was the best, but I’m torn between season one and three as to which was the best. Season 2 was a letdown but not NEARLY as bad as people made it out to be. Season 4 on the other hand was just weird. It was far from bad, but the whole carnival thing just made for some surreal situations. I don’t want to get TOO deep into the plotlines because that would take a month to fully examine. The point is that these stories are worth watching. Season one is one of the best first seasons of ANY show, not just a Sci-Fi show. From there, season two slacks off a little but its worth watching and troopering through. From there, you’re already hooked and it’s smooth sailing. There seems to be two kinds of “Heroes” fans out there. The first group stopped watching after the first season and hate on it from there and the others are those who stuck it out. Trust me, just bite your tongue through the rough parts and it’ll be smooth sailing once you get into it. If you like “Trueblood” for more than just the sexy vampires and don’t love “Heroes” then you’re lying.
(TWO) THE CHARACTERS
OH. EM. GEE. I’m going to miss the characters. Watching Claire Bennet grow up and into her powers as her father Noah, human, does anything and I mean ANYTHING to keep his family safe. Ali Larter in her dozen characters was always fun and sexy. We had Hiro Nakamura and Ando keeping a childish and innocent side to the show when everything was super serious. The Petrelli families screwed up family life and twisted morals. Mohinder, Parkman, Elle, Adam, Micah, and The Haitian were all great characters. The way these characters were written made it so easy to follow and actually care about each and every side story the show threw at you and there were many. I loved this cast and am genuinely excited to see what comes next for everyone. Still, there’s one character and actor that stood out among them all….
(ONE) SYLAR
Sylar will go down as one of the best bad guys in the history of television. Portrayed by the awesome Zachary Quinto, we got to see this character evolve and change to many times but one thing remained the same… he was a bad ass mofo. In the end, he made a 180 but I still have trouble thinking that wouldn’t have changed or it wasn’t a scheme to begin with. Sylar was just like that. His character arch is crazy and has so many layers of depth that it’s almost hard to keep track of. He started off as someone who wanted to be special, then once he was he started killing and stealing everyone else’s powers, then once the baddest mofo around he started to realize that if there’s no one left he will be alone and thus no longer “special”. How the hell Quinto didn’t fill a shelf in his home full of awards for his work in this character is beyond me. Yeah, he was a good “Spock” and Quinto has proven himself to be talented and someone who’ll find a new gig quickly… but dammit, I’m going to miss Sylar. Can’t he just go into the NBC offices and steal their programming powers?
