(FOUR) BORN IN A BOMB SHELTER
Jerry Springer is so explosive that he was literally birthed in a bomb shelter. Seriously. He was born at Highgate tube station in London during World War II. His parents were Jewish refugees who escaped Germany. He would be moved to the United States in 1949 as he parents settled down in Queens, NY.
(THREE) RECORDING ARTIST
In the mid 90’s, Jerry Springer actually released a country album. The album called “Dr. Talk” was mainly made up of cover songs and only lasted eight assumingly torturous tracks. Surprisingly on Amazon people give it pretty decent reviews.
(TWO) MAYOR
Springer was the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati. In 1970 he ran for Congress but lost. He made a good showing and stuck it out. In 71 he was elected to city council, but then resigned about admitting to hooking up with a hooker. A few years would pass, but he would be chosen by the City Council to serve one year as mayor. He was only mayor for a year, but you can’t deny the fact it happened.
(ONE) INSPIRED AN OPERA
There is seriously “Jerry Springer: The Opera”. It’s a musical by Richard Thomas and Stewart Lee and is based on the controversial tv show. The opera got popular in 2002 as it showed in Edinburgh Fringe, the Royal National Theatre in London, London’s West End, and finally in Chicago. It’s supposed to start moving into regional productions all across the US, which is kind of crazy. I can’t wait for local high schools to start doing this production. I’d pay to see that for sure.
