(FOUR) JASON SUDEIKIS
The most attention he’s gotten in the past few years is that he’s been seen with January Jones. I like Sudeikis, but I don’t feel like he ever really panned out like I was hoping. He has this attitude to him that reminds me of the old school “Not Ready For Primetime Players” crew, but hasn’t done anything really all that awesome. I liked his “A-Holes” stuff with Wiig, but they stopped doing that. Other than that, I can’t think of anything he’s done this past year except playing the cop in the Kenan “Scared Straight” sketch. He’s a cool guy. I liked him in the 30 Rock, his small part in “The Rocker” is one of my favorites, and he’s a fun guy to watch… just not on SNL, at least not anymore.
(THREE) SETH MEYERS
Seth is awesome, but I think it’s time for him to move on. He’s done a great job as the host of “Weekend Update” and head writer. The show has been pretty okay in the past few years, but I’d rather see him leave on a high note than overstay. Right now a lot of the more recent vets are leaving and a new era seems to be on the verge. Give the head writer gig to one of the non-Andy Lonely Island guys and the desk to the other. Seth Meyers should have had Jay Leno’s 9 PM slot. Leno proved people don’t want a talk show every night at 9, but when SNL put Weekend Update on Thursdays for a half hour the show got huge ratings. Wouldn’t it be a great idea to do that every week? Something like “Weekly Update With Seth Myers” would be great and could be NBC’s subtle jab at Stewart and Cobert. Leno cannot live forever and there’s going to be a gap. Jimmy Fallon is groomed for that role. He’s way less edgy than Conan was and is like an iGeneration version of Leno. On the other hand, Meyers has edge and that I don’t give a shit attitude about him that the former home of Letterman and Conan craves. Give him the “Weekly Update” show and let him ride it out until there’s room after the news for him.
(TWO) BOBBY MOYNIHAN
I love his “Ass Dan” character, but not nearly enough to want to see this guy stick around. He seems like a nice guy, but he’s not really added much to the show since becoming a supporting player. SNL has a good track record of heavier set funny guys, but with Horatio Sanz and on it’s kind of sucked. I watch Moynihan and anticipate a laugh and rarely ever get it. That is unless it’s one of the few “Ass Dan” related sketches. It’s like Jeff Richards from a few years back. His drunk sorority girl spot in the Weekend Updates was kind of awesome, but it wasn’t enough to make him an asset. Moynihan had a good showing in the small part he had in the indie comedy “Mystery Team” and I’m sure could build a big resume of those before really coming into his own.
(ONE) KRISTEN WIIG
I complain about Wiig more than any other current cast member. She’s funny, hot, and has had some great sketches that’ll be highlights for this era forever. But I’m done with her. I’m worn out on Kristen Wiig and I’d really like to see her move on. She’s had smaller, but bigger and bigger roles in a lot of movies and I don’t see that changing. She’s got potential to carry some smaller movies, run a kick ass sitcom, or even just a long career of bit parts. I know she’s pretty much the top dog of the female cast members, but we’re in good hands right now. Unless she has some completely new characters, and I mean completely new and not rehashes, then I really don’t see why she’s sticking around. Nasim Pedrad, Jenny Slate, and Abby Elliot have stepped up. Let them run with it.
