(FOUR) FBI DADDY
Tim Gunn’s father, George William Gunn, was an FBI agent under J. Edgar Hoover. Tim described him as a “big, jock-y FBI agent”. He would pass away years ago, but it’s still kind of surprising to think that the fashion guru comes from a background like that. Gunn even recalls an encounter with Hoover, in which he may or may not have met the man while in drag. He talks about it in his book “Tim Gunn: Gunn’s Golden Rules”.
(THREE) ARTIST
While at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, I’m sure he studied it and had spent time with fashion related stuff but he actually has a degree in sculpture.
(TWO) POP CULTURE STAR
His catch phrase of “Make it work!” is part of modern television lexicon. If you’ve watched television or movies in the past few years then the chances of you seeing Tim Gunn make an appearance were pretty high. Of course he has his “Project Runway” show that’s been running since 2004, but his appearances are stacking up. He’s done “Ugly Betty”, “American Dad!”, “Drop Dead Diva”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Sex and the City 2”, “Gossip Girl”, and will even be in the upcoming “Smurfs” movie. He’s always on talk shows, was in a fashion related comic book released by Marvel, and even had a spot in the opening segment of the Emmys this year. He’s not winning Oscars, Grammys, or anything but he’s making his mark in entertainment and becoming the face of fashion.
(ONE) OUTSPOKEN
Tim Gunn seems like a kind hearted person, but he’s not shy about letting his opinions being known. He’s an advocate for PETA and has been a critic of clothing using animal fur. It doesn’t end with the serious side of things. He’s also been loose lipped about his thoughts on some celebrity clothing choices. The main three he’s trash talked were Meryl Streep, Hillary Clinton, and The Kardashians. About Street he basically said “she believes she’s too smart for fashion”, about Clinton “I think she’s confused about what her gender is”, and in regards to the Kardashians he dropped “I just think the Kardashians have an absence of taste” on us. Word up, Timmy!
