(FOUR) RUNNING WILDE
The same dude who did “Arrested Development” is behind his so with Will Arnett on board I expect awesomeness. Seriously, Will Arnett can do no wrong and then pairing him with the hot, charming, and very comedy capable Keri Russell then we have a winner on our hands. I think I saw that David Cross will be involved as well so that just adds to the potential greatness of the show. I do worry about it though. Their last project was that failed cartoon and FOX is very quick on the draw to cancel their half hour comedies. And let’s face it, FOX’s sitcom track record is shit. For every “Married With Children”, “That 70’s Show”, or “Malcolm In The Middle” there’s about a dozen “Til Deaths” and multiple variations on white trash in flannel shows. And didn’t FOX cancel “Arrested Development” after only three seasons? I don’t trust this. But at least if it’s cancelled Arnett can come back to rocking his supporting role on “30 Rock”.
(THREE) DETROIT 1-8-7
I’m iffy on this one. I anticipate it because I really hope to see Michael Imperioli succeed. I know he recently had a cop show of sorts on ABC to get cancelled so I’m hoping this one sticks. It looks gritty, edgy, and gives him an outlet to show some chops. He was great on “The Sorpranos” and during the less than great seasons his character and presence made the show much better. I really wish he’d of gotten more credit for his work on the hit mafia show so I’m hoping for some kind of karma treatment here. If this doesn’t work at least he has his vodka and hopefully a return to cable. Never the less, let’s hope for this show to last.
(TWO) THE EVENT
NBC has been pushing this one hard. I’m not sure if it’s the new “Heroes”, the new “Lost”, or the new “24”, yet I’m curious as hell. I’m sure what “the event” is has been spoiled online somewhere by now, but I’m avoiding it. It looks suspenseful, fun, and something that might be a good time. It stars Jason Ritter, who is due his own vehicle. He’s cut his teeth in smaller supporting roles (see “Parenthood”) and some indie flicks (see “Good Dick”). Along with him we have Blair Underwood playing the president, which could be cool.
(ONE) BOARDWARK EMPIRE
There’s always something about HBO hour long dramas that end up magical. I know there have been a few in the past that haven’t exactly panned out, but their track record is pretty damn good. We look back on “The Sopranos”, “The Wire”, “Six Feet Under”, “Oz”, and now the likes of “True Blood” and “Treme”. This show stars Steve Buschemi as a mayor during the prohibition era. The other people on the cast I know off the bat include Michael Pitt and the guy who played “Omar” in “The Wire”. The show is stacked; it has a great cast, looks like a big budget, and a unique take. I’m sure the content will be multi-layered, it’ll be well acted, well shot, and will have people talking. Of all the shows debuting this fall, I think it’s safe to say that “Boardwalk Empire” is the surest shot of the bunch.
