(FOUR) CHEAP CAMEOS
So the seventh season of Entourage has come and gone. I used to love this show, but slowly and surely it’s making me not so sure about that anymore. The show has evolved into chauvinistic soap opera with recycled stories and plot devices from the shows early seasons. I’m not writing the show off completely. There are plenty worst shows out there and I still feel invested in these characters, but my interest is fading. One thing about the seventh season that annoyed me was the over abundance of cameos. It was like they ran out of story ideas to make people interested in the show and talk about it the next day so they just pulled a huge rolodex out and contacted any and every celebrity they could. I’m not talking about those who added to plots, but the tongue-in-cheek cameo nonsense. It just felt forced and lame. Instead of a legit storyline for longtime characters like Lloyd, we get Mike Tyson rambling about a “Brady Bunch” remake. Lame.
(THREE) BAD WOMEN
The women on this show are hot and they do their jobs well. The problem is that the women are written horribly. Ari’s wife is not dumb and knows her husband is a dick. A dick, but loyal as hell to her and the family. Sloan was boring. Turtle’s “friend” Alex, played by the lovely Dania Ramirez, has no chemistry with him and it feels like she’s using him. And then there is Sasha Grey, the porn star turned actress. She just about ruined the season for me. She’s vanilla, bland, and had no personality. With the fact that Vince had screwed around with much hotter women, and her boring attitude made it really hard to see why Vince would have any interest in her, that alone love. The whole thing felt contrived and lame. It was if they were trying to be edgy by casting a “porn star turned actress”. I’m sure she’s a cooler person than what we’re led to believe on the show. The use of all female characters this season, with the exception of Jenny the secretary, was bad.
(TWO) MEH
It wasn’t the worst season, but it’s far from the best. I know they took it to a new level of drama and the show and characters have to evolve but does it have to be boring? Out of the ten episodes of this season I only think I laughed out loud maybe three times. There were plenty of times I smirked or was generally amused but nothing great. The show just got depressing. I love the “Turtle” character, but how and why does anyone trust him with millions of dollars? Why is James Caan’s kid so annoying and douchey? He’s the most annoying character on the show since the boy’s old friend “Dom”. What the hell happened to Ari Gold and his wife? How in the hell is she surprised or shocked by his antics? He’s been up to the same stuff for a long time and has been a dick around her before. This whole bi-polar “what!? I can’t believe you’re mean to people!” thing is lame. There could have been a better way to stir up conflict between them if that’s the route they had their hearts set on. Sloan and Eric’s relationship is boring, but then again I’m pretty sure I’ve never cared about it. It’s just there and adds nothing to the show. The tone of the show completely shifted once Vince got out of control. It’s like they’ve turned one of my favorite shows into a HBO after school special.
(ONE) NEXT SEASON
So it’s been said that they’ll come back next year for a shortened season and a movie to wrap up the entire series. At this rate, we’re looking at some obvious solutions. I have this sick feeling that they’re going to go one of two routes with Vince. The first is that he’ll go to rehab, make a comeback, and win an Oscar or something “aw shucks” happy. The second is that they’ll just let him go even farther off the deep end, overdose, and die thus sending everyone their own ways. The whole thing about E going against Sloan’s godfather is going to also result in one of two ways. The first being them breaking up and him sticking with the business and the other is him leaving the business, opening a Pizza Parlor, and living happily ever after. Drama’s cartoon will blow up. Turtle will finally find success. Yadda Yadda Yadda. It FEELS like all of this stuff is obvious. I am hoping and trusting that this stuff will not happen. I don’t care if it’s a happy, sad, realistic, or unrealistic ending… this show has been too awesome to end on a shitty note.
