(FOUR) SMARTER KIDS
Astor and Cody have grown up a lot in the past five years. Astor is now interested in boys and Cody is getting big. They’re not the same cute little kids from season one. Their mom was murdered and they have to question why. I would hope the kids would smarten up and keep a closer eye on what Dexter does and how he acts. There are always little things he forgets or that make him look a little suspicious, you’d think the kids would suspect SOMETHING now. At least, I hope. I enjoy seeing Dex get away with murder (no pun intended), but the kids aren’t dumb.
(THREE) RELATIONSHIPS
With Deb being murdered it’s time for Dexter to stop falling for the same crap. Every season so far, Dexter finds himself falling in love or befriending a new person. He thinks “wow, this person is a screwed up as me!” and then starts to let his guard down. It happened with his brother, the crazy English lady, Miguel Prado, and then with the Trinity Killer. This always ends the same way. They get the best of him for a little while, he overcomes, and he kills them. I love this show, but this plot device has gotten stale.
(TWO) LEAVE DEB AND LAGUERTA ALONE!
Speaking of stale plot devices, leave these two women along. Deb has had the worst luck with men. First she hooks up with the Ice Truck Killer, then Lundy, then the stoner musician (which was a cool guy, but has a new show with Jimmy Smits and prolly won’t be back), and then Lundy again. I have a gut feeling that she’ll end up with Quinn this season or sooner than later. Pretty much the same with LaGuerta. If she’s friends with someone or has a past with them then there’s a good chance they’ll die. Doakes and Prada are good examples of this. I know being a cop is rough and all that, but this stuff is a bit too obvious and loses it value when it’s done over and over again. Put one of them with Angel and call it a day.
(ONE) CRAZY DEXTER
In the first few seasons, before getting married, Dexter was a murder machine. In the past two seasons, being in a tighter relationship and marriage with Rita put a damper on his killing. I know the plot is for him to continue “the code” and to not get caught, but it’s much more exciting when there’s a lot more to get caught doing. Now that they killed Rita off, I’d hope we see a darker Dexter. If they go in any other direction, the show will lose its main identity. Lucky for the show and for the fans, Michael C. Hall is the best actor on television today and no matter what type of personality he’s assigned he’ll rock it.
