(FOUR) COMMERCIALS
I just want to watch my Bernie Mac Show reruns. We’re all pretty much victims of regional advertising. If you live close to a major metro area then odds are you’ll be forced to sit through hours of their political ads every week. In my case, it’s Chicago. Despite living in Indiana and only being able to vote within my state lines, I am forced to watch political ads for all the Chicago candidates. On top of that, it’s all that’s talked about on the news. It’s as if my leisure time is being held hostage in exchange for a vote. Not going to work!
(THREE) MAIL
Like the E-Mail situation, I’ve gotten print ads from Illinois political figures. Not only is this a waste of their money, trees, and my time… but it’s a waste of their money, trees and my time. These fancy cards are fun for me because I’m starting to judge my politics on who has the best looking advertisements. They’re all pretty much the same anymore so this is my version of “flipping a coin”.
(TWO) PHONE CALLS
Wow. These phone calls are crazy. I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten one a day for a few weeks. I don’t hate the person calling. They’re either just doing their job or don’t realize they’re calling me five times within a week. Most of the time these people are kind, but there are some pushy ones. It sucks that you’re forced to tell the person you voted for and will vote again for to put you on their “Do Not Call List”.
(ONE) EMAIL
I signed up for an Obama campaign e-mail newsletter during the 2008 Election. It was all good and fun during that time period. I cared specifically about that election and wanted information. I got updates here and there and was told how I could do my part. All in good spirits. This is exactly what I signed up for and knew what I was getting into. Then over the months, I found myself getting more and more email. Suddenly I found myself on tons of political mailing lists. I was noticing the abundance of emails for awhile, but in the recent few weeks I’ve noticed I’ve been getting WAY TOO MANY emails. I even noticed I was getting emails about Illinois state campaigns. I live in Indiana and a registered voter. This is a waste of my time. I had to unsubscribe. Sadly, this means I won’t be able to electronically sign any more Obama Birthday cards…
