BY MIKEY MIGO
I went into this movie with mixed expectations. I've seen the trailer and it didn't do much for me. To me it came off as a mellow dramatic "Oscar Bait" type of movie. Fincher's direction and movies have always been a good time and Pitt is almost always great, especially in Fincher's "Fight Club". So I was still somewhat excited. The movie is what many of the critics are saying. The visual style, acting, direction, and story is great. I can easily see why people would love this movie. At the same time there are also critics who say it's too similar to a "Forrest Gump" type of story and it can be a bit "bleh" at times. I can see that point of view as well. The movie has the great premise of Pitt's character aging in reverse, but the period piece feel of most of it is very very similar to the style of Gump's story. I guess having the same writer on both scripts is what caused this comparison, but I think even if you didn't know that going into it you'll figure out this movie is "great, but familiar". I will buy this when it comes out and I will watch it again, but I don't think it deserves the huge praise it's getting. It's a solid three and half star movie. It's worth owning, watching, and enjoying but the same can be said for "Hot Rod" or "Terminator 3". Keep that in mind.
