This story of nerds in college overcoming the odds and the jocks to make their stand is great. A friend recently described it as "a movie about being okay with being yourself" and the dude was dead on. This movie is timeless. This is one of those movies that I wore out as a kid. I was in love with this movie and its sequel. I was such a nerd for this movie that I remember having my grandmother turn up the "concert performance" really loud and so I could try to record the audio with a portable cassette player. That proved two important things. That my grandmother rocked and that I was a little obsessed. As time went on I discovered other movies and other obsessions. Still, I always had a place in my heart for this movie. On Christmas, I received the newish Special Edition of this movie loaded with extras. The extras include deleted scenes that would have baffled me at the age of seven. Gable had a nerd bother! Louis, Gilbert, and Wormzer actually did participate in the competition! Gilbert has a racist uncle who is upset about them joining the Tri-Lambs! There's so much to take in. These aren't just randomly deleted stuff, it's complete new plots and subplots that make things really interesting when watching it again. There's commentary that's pretty okay, but the featurette with all the old nerds (minus Gilbert and his fame) talking about the movie. It's a refreshing take on a classic. If you've seen the movie a million times like I have or have never gotten the pleasure this is a perfect chance. Get your hands on this and protect it with your life.
