Being a 26 year old male, this is a movie that's not part of my normal viewing habit. A romantic comedy about people in their late 50's isn't exactly something that'd resonate with me as much as someone closer to that age. Yet with Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin on board, it's hard not to be curious. Top that off with the iconic Meryl Streep and my newer faces in John Krasinski of "The Office" and "Away We Go" fame, Hunter Parrish of "Weeds" fame, and tons of other familiar people… I just had to. It ended up being pretty damn good in terms of what it was. Streep is getting all the credit, as always, but I think Baldwin stands out in this one the most. The storyline is simple in theory, but as the title alludes it, it becomes complicated. Streep and Baldwin are long divorced, but hook up and the feelings they had for each other come back to surface. Meanwhile, Steve Martin plays "the new guy" in Streep's life and charms it up like a mofo. There's not much more to really get into without giving the entire plot away. There's some pot smoking scenes that just about make this movie. Seeing a reserved and vulnerable Steve Martin smoke weed and then come out of his shell is enough reason to give this a chance. If you're into smart romantic comedies that aren't completely estrogen based then this is for you. I give it a solid B and recommend it to those who were at the least mildly curious. Your time will not be wasted with this one.
