I had such high hopes for this movie. Not to sound arrogant or anything, but I consider myself "in the know" when it comes to up and coming big indie flicks. I heard the buzz for this one coming a mile away. Ellen Page was the shit in Hard Candy and I think Michael Cera is going to break out even more than he already has. All the blah-blah about Diablo Cody and her "past", the supporting cast, and the whole "little indie that could" buildup that's been thrown at us has only stock piled the hype on this one. I know I'm a few weeks late on finally getting to see it, but that's what happens when you're working on your own film projects among what seems to be an endless list of projects and goals. I saw it and I liked it a lot. I won't blow smoke up anyone's ass, but it was really good and solid. It didn't live up the hype, but then again even a movie like Godfather wouldn't live up to this much hype. It wasn't the best film I've seen this past year and wasn't even the best I've seen in 2008 yet. "Wristcutters: A Love Story" is still my fav that I've seen this year. To me some of the dialogue seemed really forced and fake. It was hip and edgy just for the sake of being hip and edgy. While it still felt like the standard fare indie movie where the writer sits there looking up every word with a thesaurus to ad more syllables, it did have heart. Most indie movies I see disguise heart art with cliches and eccentric characters. I want to have Juno in my DVD collection when it comes out, it won't be my be-all end-all favorite, but I still want it none the less. If Diablo Cody reads this, please know you're awesome, congrats on the nomination, and I'm in Chicagoland. Hint. Hint.
