"YES MAN"
2/25/09
BY MIKEY MIGO
I should really have more faith in Jim Carrey. When I first saw previews for this movie it looked lame. I'm a male in my mid-20's. A PG comedy is not on my radar. I figured it would be Jim Carrey doing his "Liar, Liar" type of "restrained goofy" role. I say that like a snob, but I actually did like "Liar, Liar". But in a world of Apatow and McKay R rated comedies, there was not much about this one that made me want to run out and see it. I'm a HUGE Jim Carrey fan. I think he's one of the most underappreciated actors (not just comedians) of our generation. Watch "Truman Show", "Eternal Sunshine", or "Once Bitten" and tell me otherwise. So the last one was a joke, but you get the point. Jim Carrey is so eccentric and fun to watch that you quickly forget that you're watching a PG movie and just enjoy the ride. The idea of someone saying "yes" to every question and offer is crazy and probably very dangerous. Carrey pulls it off like no other could. I'm also a fan of Zooey Deschanel. Outside of her impressive filmography, I am extra fond of her scene stealing work on "Weeds". I apologize to Jim Carrey. I should trust your film choices more. If they don't turn out to be huge blockbusters, they will at least be interesting. I just ask that he goes full at it. Go full drama, sneak in there, steal a shit load of awards, and then turn around and do the most vulgar hard R rated comedy you can find. If you're a fan of Jim Carrey, but were hesitant of seeing this movie for whatever reason then I can assure you that it'll not disappoint. If someone asks if you want to see this movie, follow the film's mantra and say YES.
