I won't sugar coat this one, I'm not a Ben Stiller fan. At a time I enjoyed "Zoolander", "Mystery Men", "There's Something About Mary", and a lot of his early work. I never really thought about it, but I think the "Meet The Parents" series is what secured his demise from my list of "actors I don't mind watching". I don't know what it is, but it was like almost over night that in my head I didn't enjoy seeing Stiller anymore. Still, I respected him for his efforts and past work so after a discussion with a friend I caved in and saw "The Heartbreak Kid". So it's a remake. Who'd of guessed!? Then I see in the credits that Carlos Mencia is in it. That's a HUGE downer off the bat, still I watch on past the credits. So basically Stiller's character is tired of being alone so he jumps into a marriage out of desperation. On the honeymoon, he finds out he doesn't like her but some other woman who is at the vacation spot with her family. Then I guess hilarity was supposed to ensue, but it's close to a week after watching it and I'm still waiting. There were parts that were mildly funny and I don't regret watching it, but it just fell really flat. Outside of Mencia(I just don't like him), the supporting cast did awesome with what they had. It's just the story didn't really make Stiller's character all that likeable. The jokes, efforts, and direction was fine, but I think the fact that you couldn't connect with the main character on a emotional level is what halted this movie from having the same heart and charm of older Farrelly Brother's movies. Stiller and the brother's Farrelly have and can do much better. It's not horrible; it just felt like a waste of time. If you haven't already, get "There's Something About Mary" for your DVD collection but wait and watch this one on cable.
