"HEAD OF STATE"
3/3/10
BY MIKEY MIGO
I've seen this movie in the past. I think I might have even seen it in theatres when it was released. This past Sunday morning I caught this movie just as it was starting and found myself watching the entire thing. It's a little bit of "Trading Places" mixed in with a political and social satire and commentary. In 2003 it would be considered "satire" for a black man to be president of the United States, but here it's within the realm of reality. I'm sure at the time the concept was jarring to some, and hell I'm sure it still is today, but this movie was obviously before it's time. As I watched it, something came to mind. I've always heard stuff about Robin Williams stealing jokes, but he stole this movie. He took the "Trading Places" out of it, added in a "well, political humor on The Dailey Show is popular" and called it "Man of The Year". This movie is about 40 times funnier than that. It's not a great movie, but it's good. It's a good Sunday afternoon flick to watch in your pajamas and sip coffee too. That's a respectable feat. If you're a fan of Rock, Mac, or just good comedy in general this is a movie that you must see before dying. A lot of movies come and go, but little gems like this are always a pleasure to catch from time to time. If you've never seen this movie then you're missing out on Chris Rock's best work since CB4. If you haven't seen THAT, then you need a humor transplant.
