BY MIKEY MIGO
Of course I've seen Tommy Boy before. Many many times, in fact. It's just that I've not actually sat down and watched it in a few years at least. Like many Sunday afternoons, there is always a plethora of classic comedies on a good half dozen channels. Sometimes I'm in the mood for one, most of the time I'm not. I'm a huge Farley fan. I have his autographed photo hanging in my office right now. It's just after so many years and so many viewings you start to take his talent for granted and you forget why you loved his work to begin with. It was almost like watching the movie again for the first time. I'm sure most people have seen and loved the movie, but it's really timeless. It's not as edgy as a normal R-Rated comedy is today, but I don't think it was ever intended to be edgy or offensive. Farley, Spade, and company put out a movie with a lot of heart and charm. To me, the 80's had "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" and then the 90's got "Tommy Boy". They are the epitome of comedy road trip movies. What have we gotten in the 00's? Many have tried, but no movie since has captured the charm of traveling across country with a goofy loveable guy and a loveable up tight straight man. If you were a fan, you need to watch this movie and remember why you still are.
