[MOVIES]RANDOM MOVIE REVIEW
"SOUTHLAND TALES"

BY MIKEY MIGO
I saw this one awhile back and never mentioned it. I saw it again recently and confirmed the thoughts I had originally. If I hadn't of heard of this movie, the plot, the awesome line up of actors, and the director of Donny Darko being involved I might not have had the anticipation I had for this one going in. Yet it's about two and a half hours of hits and misses with the misses coming a little faster at you. I know there are comic books or "graphic novels" out there that are the prequel to this movie, but it should still stand better on its own. There are a lot of eccentric characters and people in this movie, but it jumps into their lives and never really gives us a reason to care about them much. This withstanding, everyone on screen did their best with the material they had. I've been a casual fan of The Killers for awhile, but after the Timberlake scene I have a new appreciation for their music. Still though, I remember hearing about this movie on wrestling sites, movie sites, and other places and getting my hopes up. The anticipation built up more and more as the production was to be complete. Then out of nowhere, there is a "re-edit" of the script. If a movie bombs for a test audience to the point there is months of stalling and "edits" then it normally means that it's not going to be that impressive. Sadly, despite waiting to form my own opinion, it ended up being the exact case here. I'm not upset I've seen this movie, but it leaves me with a "eh" feeling. I wouldn't be a jerk and tell a friend NOT to watch it, but it wouldn't be the first movie I'd suggest to them.
