"HOT TUB TIME MACHINE"
4/14/10
BY MIKEY MIGO
It took me three weeks, but I finally got the chance to get see "Hot Tub Time Machine". When the cast was first announced, what seems like forever ago, I was more than enough excited for it. You have John Cusack busting out a R-Rated comedy, the awesome Craig Robinson, the under-loved Rob Corddry, Chevy Chase, and Crispen Glover. The only eye brow rise was the fact that "Rainn Hill" as I so wittingly called him during "Sex Drive", Clark Duke was in it. He's not bad and can be uniquely enjoyable, but he just looks like if Rainn Wilson and Jonah Hill were mutated together. If these two were on the evolutionary chart together, then Clark Duke would be right in the middle. You pick the progressive flow of that analogy. Anywho, the movie was hilarious. Not in the frat boy/hipster way that "The Hangover" was, but in a way more mature and smarter fashion. I only reference that because it seems as if people deem "The Hangover" as the new measuring stick of comedy. It was a great movie, but there are other styles out there. The story is about three friends who end up going back to a ski resort they had a great time at in the 80s. Corddry is depressed, so Cusack and Robinson want to get him out of his funk. Duke, Cusack's nephew, goes a long. They end up partying and somehow, thanks to a hot tub, go back to 1986. But if you've seen the trailer, you already know most of what I just said. This totally looks like one of those movies that give away EVERYTHING in the trailer, but it's far from it. There are plenty of jokes that get a huge set up that deliver in the end, tons of 80's sight gags, and just overall a very good movie. I paid pretty close attention to this one since preproduction and I can still honestly say that I laughed out loud often and never felt bored with any of it. That's an experience that should be had by all so I don't want to spoil anything else. I give this the highest ranking I can. This is just one of those movies that you feel was made specifically for you. You might not enjoy it THAT much, but it's still worth a shot. See it! See it now!
