I didn't want to see this. I've grown tired and annoyed with the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp "we make movies for Hot Topic kids" thing they have going on. First they screwed with Wonka, then Sweeny Todd, and now this. I want to see Burton do something like Ed Wood, Big Fish, or even Beetlejuice again almost as badly as I want to see Depp play a real person again. I was just not into seeing this, but none the less I found myself in front of it this past week. I did end up enjoying it, but it could have just been because I had horrible expectations. The story was a tad weirdly twisted at times, but it's done like an acid trip. I found myself enjoying Depp's craziness and random changes throughout. I dug the direction and set design. I was thrilled that Crispen Glover and Ann Hathaway got to eat up their scenes and rock it. Overall, it was just that… enjoyable. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't thrilled. Maybe if I were on a small handful of drugs it'd of blown my mind, but I wasn't. It's not a bad movie at all and I can't hate on people for really liking it. I just expect and want more from those involved. I give it a B for the one viewing, but I'll probably never watch it again.
