There is just something about this movie. I consider this one of my favorites and every time I watch it I take something new from it. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet's work here is my favorite of each. Carrey displays his natural charm and very underrated acting chops without having to go too over the top or too shticky. Winslet is the multilayer eccentric girl of our dreams. Putting them two together, with Michel Gondry's great eye and brain, makes for one of the best modern dramas of love to be released on this side of the millennium. For those under a rock, it's about a budding relationship shown mostly through memories as a man is having a fictional memory erasing procedure done. Sounds weird when you think of the movie on those terms, but it's much much more than that very bare description. The emotions, experiences, and whole story here is something magical and beautiful. 500 Days of Summer is a good movie, but if you think about it, it's like they were grasping for Eternal Sunshine without the memory loss plot.
