"HOT ROD"

BY MIKEY MIGO

I am one of the few people who still watch SNL religiously. I have the luxury of seeing great sketches, the future stars develop, and lately the Digital Shorts. You're reading this on the internet so you know the awesomeness of "Lazy Sunday", "The Natalie Portman Rap", "Young Chuck Norris", "Lazer Cats", and of course "Dick in a Box". All of those Digital Shorts were done by Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island crew. You should know all of this already so I'm going to cut to the review part. The movie gets compared to Napoleon Dynamite a lot because of the awkward outcast that is Rod Kimble. To be fair I think Rod is a lot more likeable and real that Napoleon. He's basically the suburbanite kid you went to High school with that never gave up on his dreams, which is confused for "not growing up". The plot of "Hot Rod" is great. Rod wants to raise money for his dad's heart operation. Rod wants him to fully recover so Rod can kick his ass and prove he's a man. There is times when it feels like you're watching a "Digital Feature" and it works out perfectly if you have a similar sense of humor. I do and enjoyed the hell of this movie. It's a DVD that will be viewed many times in the future. If you enjoy awkward humor or the Digital Shorts go check it out.
