"ORPHAN"
12/2/09
BY MIKEY MIGO

This is a movie that I'd normally avoid. I'm not much of a horror fan, but I'm becoming more acceptant of the genre. Still, this looked like other typical horror flicks that have came out in the past few years. But on Thanksgiving, I was at a loved one's home and this ended up making its way to the DVD player. I wasn't enthusiastic, but found myself enthralled by the story and acting. The story is that a couple lost their child and decided to adopt to fill the void. They adopt Esther and insanity ensues. This little girl was pure evil. I was honestly kind of scared of this little girl and shared in the frustrations of the mother (Farmiga) who no one believed. This movie just builds and builds in chaos as an awesomely played Esther(by 12 year old Fuhrman) provides some intense and disturbing work. This is a movie where I really don't want to get into the whole series of events because I don't want to spoil ANYTHING about it. It was a huge surprise to me and I think that sentiment would be shared by all. I've not taken the full year of movies into account, but I'd not be surprised to see this on a few Top 10 lists come year's end. It's AT LEAST in my personal top five horror movies of the year. If you're a horror fan or even a curious observer like myself then I assure you… SEE THIS MOVIE.
