In the past few years or so I’ve formed a love/hate relationship with WWE and professional wrestling in general. The overall product out there just kind of sucks. TNA is a joke, ROH has grown stale, I have no access to EVOLVE short of illegally downloading their shows, and DGUSA is too far and in between for me. I still enjoy a good match, but WWE has pretty much sabotaged its show for anyone over 16 and with an IQ higher than their television channel count. I used to watch every Monday. Now I’m lucky if I read the results every Tuesday. It’s just not worth it anymore. Still, I’d be lying if I said I don’t have moments of weakness. This weakness is due to the fact that no matter what I’m always going to have a soft spot for wrestling. This hits me for what seems like weeklong stints around Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series. So pretty much four weeks there and then we’ll add a little more for randomness. So I’m pretty much a diehard fan for about five weeks a year these days. It just so happened that this past week was Survivor Series. This meant, weakness was here and my attention was gotten. I kept track of the card, watched some of both RAW and Smackdown, and was slightly anticipating the show. The show ended up being decently okay. Nothing monumental happened and really we didn’t get any “MOTYC” (Match of the Year Candidates). Nevertheless, there was some solid stuff and I really can’t complain about the show at all. The opening match between Daniel Bryan and Teddy D. was pretty decent. I was a fan and supporter of Ted DiBiase Jr., but he’s proven himself to be bland-sauce and destined to ride the midcard for ever. Hopefully the other DiBiase in training can live up to his family’s name. Next we got Sheamus losing cleanly to John Morrison. I’m a huge Morrison fan. He’s one of the few bright spots right now in WWE. It’s awesome to see him get a clean win over one of their golden boys. I like these two working together and I hope they get a proper blow off in some type of gimmick match at TLC and hopefully not a lame “Table Match”. Dolph and Kaval put on a good match. I think a lot of people expected Kaval to get the belt here, but I’m cool with Dolph getting a good run with the IC Title. Kaval needs to be pushed as the scrappy underdog so having him chase the title for awhile, win or lose, can make for good stuff. The one and only Survivor Series rule match was a bit of a letdown. It was the same thing we’ve seen a million times. Rey and Show went over…. yawn. Natalya won the Divas Title and Beth Phoenix is back… both cool with me. Edge and Kane did not click at all. Edge is normally awesome and Kane is pretty solid, but on this match they did not mesh well at all. I was looking forward to it too. In the end Orton keeps the title over Wade Barrett. This means Cena is “fired” and we got the oh-so-somber goodbye crap at the end of the show. If you don’t think Cena will be around you’re dumb. Even if he’s going to film a movie or something, he’s not going anywhere. He might show up on Smackdown, take a week or two off, or get reinstated out of the blue. The only way this is not insulting is if Cena returns and goes heel. That’s iffy and doubtful… but at least I’d dig it.
