I am a huge fan of darker, more quirky R-Rated comedies. Some are great, but then some aren’t. Like pizza, even a bad R-Rated comedy is mostly okay. I say mostly because Tony’s frozen pizza sucks and so do most of those newer “National Lampoon” flicks. Any who… I have a good feeling about this one. Most folks probably have no idea this movie even exists. I didn’t until a few weeks ago when a friend showed it to me. Since then I can’t get it out of my head. Sadly, this one of those “Limited Release” movies and it comes out “in select areas” next month. I don’t get how this movie can’t rock. Based on the trailer, the premise, and the actors involved it looks hilarious. Ed Helms stars as an insurance agent who is blind to the world. He has never left his home town and has been sheltered for all of his life. He is selected to go to the insurance company’s annual convention in Cedar Rapids. When he’s there he meets some of the company’s other heavy hitters including John C. Reilly, Anne Heche, and the awesome Isiah Whitlock Jr. There seems to be a good variety of supporting actors here too. We have Stephen Root, Alia Shawkat, Rob Corddry, Kurtwood Smith (“Red” from 70’s Show!), and the too often overlooked Mike O’Malley. There are some great lines in the trailer including, but not limited to “I don’t trust people with pony tails”, “two bags. super awesome”, and “I always keeps one in the chamber” are meant to be repeated over and over again for years to come. Maybe I’m setting myself up for a huge disappointment, but I am expecting this movie to be awesome. If the trailer gave everything away then the movie should be at least “pretty good”, but if there is more to than that, and I’m sure there will be, we’re looking like we may have a classic on our hands.
