The 2011 Golden Globes are over. Ricky Gervais did his best to not get hired again for next year’s show and it was hilarious. He mocked Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, and others who deserve it. He actually had the balls to trash Depp and Angelina’s “The Tourist”. Sure it’s probably horrible, but who is going to tell Johnny Depp that someone he made sucks? Ricky Gervais that’s who. Johnny Depp rocks. He is an enigma wrapped in a ridden wrapped in a sheet of pure grade lsd. Chicks want him and dudes want to hang out with him. He is an icon. Still, he makes shitty movies. I’m talking everything post 2000 with Burton, the Pirate movies, and then movies like this. Back in the day he’d make cool movies like Blow, Ed Wood, and other classics. But now he sticks with feeding the masses shtick. Hearing him get knocked down a peg at the start put the show in the right tone for me. Gervais didn’t let up all night and did a great “I really don’t give a shit” performance.
The only pick I had correct was Boardwalk Empire taking the drama TV globe. The show is just THAT good that even the Hollywood foreign press can agree with little ol’ me. I’m not bummed about Steve Buscemi getting the drama actor award over Michael C. Hall. I’m a fan of all the shows that were nominated except House. Only people who eat cough drops like candy like House. The Glee love was a big obvious. I don’t like the show at all and those who do should have the nail of the fourth toe on each foot clipped uncomfortably too short.
Granted I didn’t make any picks for the movie portion of the show, I can’t complain too much. To me, I’m at a limbo with what was the best movie in 2010. I can’t decide from The Social Network, Black Swan, and Inception but I’m starting to lean towards that order. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, my favorite band of all time, got a Golden Globe and was on stage during the big “Best Motion Picture” award at the end of the night because of his doings on The Social Network soundtrack. Natalie Portman and Annette Bening rocked it in their movies and deserved it. Fincher and Sorkin deserved the Director and Screenplay awards for Social Network as well. This was obviously the big winner on the show. I’m cool with that. I’m just a little miffed that Inception didn’t get ANY award. Couldn’t we do like a “Best Picture To Not Be About Facebook”? Wait, then Black Swan would sweep. Damn… how about this. How about we get Joseph Gordon Levitt a Best Supporting Actor and give them best cinematography at the Oscars? That’s almost fair.
