Wrestlemania 27 has come and gone. For the past month or so I’ve gotten myself hyped up for the big event and for professional wrestling again in general. It’s been awhile since I’ve been this excited about a show. Sadly, the show was kind of mediocre. I went into the show wanting to see Sheamus and Daniel Bryan go at it. Their matches on RAW have been awesome. We start with The Rock cutting a 15 minute promo. I made a joke that his segment would end up costing an undercard match a lot of time. Then I come to find that the US Title Match I was excited to see was scrapped for a dark match shmoz-fest. That coupled with the lame as shit Hornswoggle nonsense, the really long Lawler/Austin/Cole/Booker segment sorta/kinda killed the mood off for me. I was shocked to see Edge and Del Rio open the show, but as soon as I knew it was on first I knew Edge was winning. Faces always win during the opening match at Mania. It gets the crowd popping and happy. The match was really good. It just sucks that the second best wrestling match on the show was first. Del Rio wins the Royal Rumble only to OPEN Wrestlemania. What a waste. Cody won; cool. The 8 Man Tag was next and was quick as shit. I’m pretty sure Vince was in the back and said “let’s get this Smackdown shit over with” because the entire Smackdown undercard opened the show. Kofi vs. Barrett in a Lumberjack match would have been a 100 times better. The Punk/Orton match seemed okay. I missed a few minutes off the top to go pee and came back and had a hard time getting into it. Orton won, fine with me. The Lawler/Cole match was stupid. It was fun to see Lawler beat up Cole, but it got old really quick. Austin’s spot on the show was REALLY wasted. Too much stupid shit with the Stunners to everyone. They could have easily just had Booker and Mathews get up, walk away, and let JR and King announce. Seriously JR and the King are the most OVERRATED announce team of all time. Daniel Bryan and Sheamus were bumped, but THIS got like 15 minutes? Insulting as shit. I wasn’t excited about Triple H vs. Undertaker, but it did pick up steam. I mean how jaded of a wrestling fan does one have to be to NOT acknowledge the greatness there. They put on an epic match, but it still didn’t make me all moist in the knickers like some folks out there. I was pissed when I saw Triple H starting to pass out. I really thought they were going to have him pass out, but that would be lame. It was the best match on the show, but I think I enjoyed Edge/Del Rio more. The Mixed-6-Man-Tag thing was okay. Morrison and Dolph deserved better, but both will get some mild pub rub from all the media outlets covering the match. Snooki didn’t suck too bad. Really, at 4 minutes this match was too short to really suck. Surprisingly the 8-Man was WORSE than this. The Miz is still the champion after a pretty boring and uneventful match with Cena. They have a few “big spots”, but it just didn’t feel like a Wrestlemania main event at all. How dare they even TEASE a draw? Of course we know The Rock is going to come out. He did and gave Cena the Rockbottom, Miz wins, and then Rock comes BACK into the ring to beat up The Miz. I love The Rock, but this just made WWE’s current Main Event scene look really weak. It was cool seeing The Rock have the moment, but it felt really cheap. Overall, it was 4 hours of solid stuff but at the end of the day nothing too special went down and this Mania is going to be forgotten.
