I love the Muppets. I grew up in the perfect era to be a fan. As a small child I got to watch Muppet Babies and even went to see “Muppet Babies on Ice”. I still sorta consider that my first concert. I loved Kermit, Fozzy, and the gang. I watched Sesame Street. I watched Fraggle Rock. I was very in tuned with my inner-Muppet. The point really being, I’ve always been a Muppet fan. So when they announced a Muppet movie was coming out, I was interested. Then I hear Jason Segal is on board and I’m even more into it. Before I knew, I was actually anticipating this kids movie. I’m a grown man closer to 30 than to 20 so it’s a little weird, but oh well.
In the past month or so, I think I’ve seen the Muppets on just about everything I watch. I’m pretty sure they did EVERY talk show that they could. They showed up on Saturday Night Live. They showed up on Monday Night RAW. They seriously keep popping up EVERYWHERE. Now I read they’re getting a sitcom deal on NBC. Wow.
In most cases, I’ll grow to hate something that’s been shoved down my throat. I wanted to use this spot to rant about how I’m officially annoyed by the Muppet love. I can’t. I still enjoy them. I’m sure they’ll overstay their welcome, but I’ll enjoy the ride for now. It’s awesome to see something actually cool come out for kids to enjoy. Screw Pixar and the overly animated animation films. I’ll take these puppets over that crap any day of the week. So Muppet fans, this is our shot. We’ll get a few months to really go nuts with it, but it’ll eventually end. In the mean time, let’s soak it all up.
