I watched he WWE TLC PPV this past Sunday. I wasn’t really looking forward to this show. Nothing about it really called out to me as something “must see”. I still watched with some optimistic because of the gimmick matches. The opening match was really fun. Dolph Ziggler is the best thing on WWE TV today. He doesn’t NEED the US Title, but I still would have liked to see him hold it forever. Zack Ryder’s reaction when he won solidified him being the next champion though. I wasn’t sold on him to be honest. He’s still not a great wrestler, but he’s more over now than some wrestlers would dream about. I have no idea who he could feud with.
The bonus tag team title match was a blur. I typically enjoy Kofi and Bourne’s matches, but this one didn’t do anything for me. I really liked the Orton/Barrett match. The finish was awesome. I don’t care that Orton won. So what? Barrett can STILL be pushed and lose to Randy Orton. It’s not like he was bitch slapped by Santino or anything. The diva match was a non-factor. The Triple H/Nash match was too long, but I appreciate the bumps they took. I did not expect Nash to be falling off ladders and going through tables. Really, I don’t expect Nash to do much of anything. Walking included. I didn’t want to see this match and I really don’t want to talk about it now. It wasn’t HORRIBLE, but it’s whatever. Sheamus and Swagger was a waste of time.
Big Show and Mark Henry was bad. Like really bad. They did some intimidating stuff with chairs, but there was no flow or story to be told. Show won… then DANIEL BRYAN comes out and beats him! Crazy! I don’t like it. Mark Henry was a GREAT heel champion and I don’t think his reign should have ended so easily. I have a feeling that Daniel Bryan will have to defend against BOTH men at Royal Rumble. Yuck. Bryan’s win was awesome on a million levels, but a little worrisome as well. This means he’s not getting that big Wrestlemania moment, his pop was less than amazing, and his build until now has been “little scrappy underdog”. Sadly, I think they’re going to keep up with it because this “David vs. Goliath” feud isn’t over.
Cody Rhodes and Booker T were awesome tonight. They really made Cody look like an important player on the show and it got to showcase the importance of Booker T’s return to the ring. They could have snuck Booker in there to get a cheap pop and sent him on his merry way. They didn’t. They started building something that will lead to a big pay off match. It’s great for elevating Rhodes and Booker gets to show off with one of the best acts in wrestling right now. Good stuff.
The show ended with the big TLC match between Miz/Alberto/Punk. It ended up being better than expected. Alberto Del Rio continues to improve and impress me, which is pretty awesome because I’m already becoming a big fan. His English and promos are getting better and he’s showing a lot of aggression and presence out there. He gets flat out MEAN in gimmick matches. Del Rio and Punk made Miz look like a bitch in their promos and sadly he didn’t do much in the match to really get a stir. He had his spots, but I can’t think of much that’s “highlight” material. I liked how they used the handcuffs and especially the twisting off of the turnbuckle. Lots of good and innovative spots in this one. It was really good actually. It just didn’t feel like a PPV Main Event to me though.
This show was weird. There are some big moments and big developments, but the flow of it was really weird. They crammed so much into this show but at the same time it felt a little drawn out. The huge pop that Ryder got at the start just about took out the wind of the crowd for the rest of the night. The crowd just sucked and didn’t do the show any favors. I really can’t complain about the show too much. It was a very solid B grade show with some huge moments that’ll be part of people’s highlight reels for years to come.
