The WWE put out a press release this past week announcing that Monday Night RAW will start being a three hour event every week. Despite the fact that it means there will be opportunities for people to make a living in professional wrestling, despite the fact that the ticket buying customer is getting a great worth in their ticket prices, despite the fact that no one has actually seen the result of this change... there are “fans” actually complaining!
It all comes down to people being pessimistic and overly cynical. That time they ran the WWE was so much better than now… oh wait. Not all fans. Some fans still find enjoyment and value in wrestling and don’t devote so much negative energy into something they don’t enjoy. I’m talking about the people who seem to find joy in nitpicking and hating every detail that the WWE does. Those “fans” should be ECSTATIC! You’ll now have MORE to bitch about. How cool is that? I don’t get the problem here. Does the extra time take away from the time you’d have to complain?
“Experts” are getting all over this because they say it’ll be “overkill”. They are comparing it to when WCW Nitro went three hours. How is that fair? WWF/WWE won that war. They’ve proven they are NOT the same company as that failed southern shit fest. WWE have put on numerous three hour RAWs in the past. Ratings may vary, but so what? The lower end of the WWE ratings are still better than most of what’s on television. How does this effect anyone outside of their stockholders?
The show generally runs two hours plus every week. I can’t remember the last time a Monday Night RAW ended exactly at 10 pm (central). The spill over is anywhere from five minutes to as much as fifteen in some rarer cases. I have a feeling we won’t see that much more than five minutes at most over-spill once this all goes into full effect. So, let’s be realistic here… it’s not an “extra hour”. It’s an extra “forty five minutes”.
How are all of these “fans” going to react when WWE actually does launch the WWE network? If one “hour” extra of RAW being added causes this many “doomsday” responses how the hell is an entire network going to work for these “fans”? How is expanding one’s business a sign of “the end”? Because a non-wrestling business man gave up on his product and sold it off? The McMahons and the WWE are not Ted Turner, Eric Bischoff, WCW, or Turner Broadcasting. Duh. Why are you even watching the WWE if you’re against every decision that’s made and have no faith in it? What exactly are you gaining from investing time and interest to something you have no faith in?
I don’t like everything on RAW or in the WWE, but I’m a fan enough to follow it and watch it when I feel the desire. It’s not mandatory. If you don’t want to watch three hours of Monday Night RAW then only watch two hours and turn it off. No one is forcing you to watch it.
