I feel like I just reviewed a new WWE PPV. I generally enjoy the product. There are some great wrestlers and I enjoy some of the pairings. Certain storylines and situations won’t always go as I’d like, but I’m still a fan. There are seasons of my favorite television shows that had a few shitty seasons in the midst of an overall great show. I could have used the same metaphor for your favorite sports team. I think it’s partially the fact that WWE is on every week. It has become part of our everyday lives. It’s routine. Maybe some folks feel they have to get really worked up over WWE doing something they don’t agree with. I’m a victim of this all the time. It’s just really silly. If wrestling is THAT much a part of your life then treat it like a family member. You can be critical, but remember its family and it’s there for you. Some folks are just so negative about it that I have to imagine they’re REALLY pent up elsewhere. Then again, I suppose it’s all part of “the work”.
No Way Out was this past Sunday. For the most part it was underwhelming. I’d have much rather seen Brodus and Otunga on the actual PPV than Skip Goldback beat up two locals. Hell, I’d rather have seen it more than Sin Cara and Huncio. Sin Cara and Hunico aren’t bad, but I have no interest in EVER seeing them wrestle each other again. I’d love to see them stop with the lighting experiment and just let Sin Cara be a normal wrestler. By making him an “attraction” it takes away from the potential storylines and potentially awesome matches. The Santino/Ricardo match was lame too, but it was harmless and only a few minutes long. I have no problem with them having a little feud, but the idea of a Tuxedo Match isn’t that cool. Beth lost again in a match I ignored. On top of all of this filler was Triple H cutting a long promo about wanting to face Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. This didn’t need to be on PPV.
The nitty gritty of the show comes down to four matches. The bonus tag team match was awesome. There were some sloppy moments, but the idea of four contender tag teams getting PPV time is fine by me. It brought me back to the 4-Way tag match at Wrestlemania 13. A lot of little things went on here. We saw Justin Gabriel come back. He and Kidd are a good team. AW ditched The Carlitos for Prymetyme Players. It was obvious from the start, but it needed to be done. Ideally, Percy Watson would be Titus’s partner in this situation though. Cody Rhodes lost to Christian. Christian has been on PPV two weeks in a row. That rare. I’d have liked Cody to win, but he’s ready to push to the next level. Not quite World Title time, but riiiiight there. He needs a match on RAW with CM Punk to show off a little. In time, in time…
Punk retains again. Daniel Bryan and Punk did some cool stuff and Kane fit right in with it. They made it work nicely. Like most people I’d rather see a straight up battle between Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, but I like the idea of Kane being involved. It adds WAY more personality. Between Kane’s weirdness and AJ’s “crazy chick” thing this storyline is developing to be pretty interesting. The match wasn’t that great. I’m starting to notice the limitations of CM Punk, but that’s a ramble for another day.
The Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus match was easily the best match on the show. Dolph Ziggler stole the show. How about that TOP ROPE X-Factor? They didn’t even put it in the replay. They kicked each other’s ass and had a phenomenal twenty plus minute match. Dolph is my favorite wrestler right now. I’m a fan of Sheamus too. When he’s in there with someone like a Ziggler or a Bryan he can definitely hold his own. Awesome stuff.
The end of the show saw John Cena overcome the odds and defeat Big Show in a cage. If anyone is shocked about this then they’ve never seen John Cena before. He only loses to people name Dwayne. Vince McMahon fired John Laurinatis and then Cena put him through a table. I’m sure this is not over… that sucks.
