The 2012 Money In The Bank was not as good as the 2011 Money In The Bank. How could it have been? The 2011 show was one of the best WWE shows in years. Tons of big moments happened on that show and it was the first of the current main event shift. That’s not saying at all that the 2012 PPV wasn’t entertaining. I left the viewing of the PPV pretty satisfied. There was some great action. There were only four big matches were mentioning. I have nothing to say about Ryberg beating low card guys. I didn’t care about the divas match. I’m sure Rytista won and I don’t know which of the divas won. Don’t care. It was the four big matches that brought my attention to the show.
The guys in the “Blue Money In The Bank” match put on a great opening match. There were a few dangerous spots that looked really awkward in execution and in their landing. It makes me cringe to see folks take weird bumps, but I’m glad it appeared everyone was okay. In the midst of all of the back and forth, we saw the typical formula of “okay, now you guys do your spot… then we’ll do ours” and so on. When the wrestlers were out of the ring it was like they were just waiting in a single file line ready to go in and get in their big moments. They still kept it compelling though. It was chaos. It was a train wreck. It was a cluster fuck… but it had me on the edge of my seat. By the end I was hoping anyone other than Christian would win. I’m thrilled Dolph Ziggler won. He’s my favorite wrestler to watch right now.
Sheamus continues to improve greatly in the ring. His pacing and storytelling is getting better and he’s one of the best big guys in a long time. His character and personality still isn’t connecting with me. I like him and like his evolving work, but his personality don’t call out to me as “Champion!” Regardless, this match was cool. Del Rio has really stepped up his game. He’s being more aggressive and it’s doing wonders for him. The nastier edge to him could open up some new doors for him. This match was pretty good.
Punk and Bryan had a great match. The AJ stuff was interesting, but I’m glad they didn’t blow their wad with the storyline. A lot of people are bitching about them not advancing the storyline, but who says that didn’t? If the match would have been an Attitude Era “special ref” match were AJ stirred the shit the whole time the fans would KILL WWE. They’d bitch that the wrestlers didn’t get to wrestle. Listen you dumbasses… they GOT TO WRESTLE. How can you bitch about that match? They killed each other and put on a great match. AJ was there in doses, but the focus was on the action. Why bitch about this?
The “Red Money In The Bank” match wasn’t as good as the “Blue” one and it wasn’t as good as Punk/Bryan. I enjoyed it. There were some cool moments. Big Show being buried in ladders was cool. Miz being back was cool. The big ladder was cool. It was a decent match. It just wasn’t a main event worthy match on a show where it’d fall down to third or even forth best on the card. We know why it was the Main Event though…
I finally get the joke. John Cena cannot be on a show without being in the last match and more times than not, he’s going win. We hate it. We bitch. We complain… but we keep coming back. Wrestling fans are going to keep coming back. John Cena winning makes the ADHD-Generation happy as hell. Older fans are going to keep coming back and keep complaining while WWE takes their money and little kid’s allowance and lemonade stand money. The joke keeps going and going and going. Sadly, the joke is on us.
