Night of Champions is less than a week away. I’m writing this the weekend before the show so I don’t have the “go home” RAW and Smackdown to take into account. I’ve been watching wrestling for a million years now that I really don’t think it’ll make THAT big of a difference. The main events are set. At best a stupid stipulation will be added to a match.
I really like Randy Orton being the top heel in the company. He’s consistently on the best performers and is truly a natural superstar. He’s got the “size” that the McMahons want, but unlike Cena, the dude has an interesting move set and style. He just seems more creative, more vicious, and his matches have more of a REAL feel to them. I’m also human. I love Daniel Bryan. They need to utilize the whole “GOAT FACE” thing by making it the “Greatest Of All Time” Acronym. That has money written all over it, but they’re missing the boat. Due to Triple H and the McMahons getting involved in this storyline I’ve completely disconnected from it. I like watching both guys wrestle so the match should be good, but sadly the McMahon antics will take away from it. I have no problem with storyline advancement, but this one just doesn’t work. Triple H is not showing ANY vulnerability. When Daniel Bryan snaps on him, will Triple H sell it like McMahon sold Austin’s stunner? Doubtful. I don’t care who wins if we get a real match out of the two, but you just know there will be shenanigans. Orton retains.
For some reason RVD is taking on Alberto Del Rio for the World Title. This could be a really good match if they get the time to tell the story. I think their styles complement each other nicely so far and this could be a sleeper match. I’d think Del Rio’s run is going to go on longer than this, but I think RVD is going to get the surprise win thanks to Ricardo-ference. So yeah, Rob Van Dam is the NEW World Champion. But then does Damien Sandow cash in on RVD? Hmmm… Interesting….
I wish Paul Heyman’s guy was no Curtis Axel because the Heyman/Punk break up is BEING WASTED. This storyline has tons of potential and interest, but Curtis Axel just doesn’t have any stage presence. He is a very talented wrestler, looks the part, and has everything going for him. The problem is that he doesn’t demand attention. Punk wins because he needs to, but there’s gotta be more to this. In a perfect world, Heyman would start a long run of “calling in favors” where old “Heyman guys” show up to fight Punk. This could be ECW people, Dangerous Alliance people, and then new protégé’s. That would be a lot of fun.
The match I’ll most likely skip is the Fatal Four Way for the Divas Title. It’s nothing personal, but these matches just don’t do it for me. If I’m in a rush to watch a show on fast forward, the Diva match is always a victim of the skip. The weird thing is that I like AJ’s character work when she’s not cutting promos with CM Punk’s vocal tone, Naomi might be my favorite female wrestler on the roster, Natalya is always solid, and the Bella is just there. I can’t see this match not being a big cluster. I’d image they’ll get like 6 minutes to work a match and then at the 7 minute mark the women for the reality show or other divas come in and mess it all up. I suppose AJ retains, but in a perfect world Natalya or Naomi would get a chance to run with it.
Those are the only four matches as I wrote this. I know that won’t last. I’d expect to see Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose added to the card. If so, that’ll be the match I’ll want to see the absolute most. I’m tired of Ziggler losing, but I don’t want him to take Ambrose’s US Title. Ambrose is an awesome champion with some good life left in his run and Ziggler SHOULD be in the World Title picture at least. I’m sure the Wyatt Family, The Shield, and other regulars will be on the show as well. It’ll all be there. I just don’t think anything too spectactular is going to happen to make it worth dropping over have a bill on.
