Money in the Bank used to be really fun and exciting. It was a WrestleMania attraction that saw certain stars that didn’t have a big storyline that year all grouped into one big match that mattered. Six, Seven, or eight guys are all thrown in a big ass ladder match that would steal any show it was on. It gave us non-stop action, crazy spots and tons of memorable moments. We got to see new upcoming stars rise and older stars find a purpose. These matches were like pizza. Never really that bad, but sometimes great. The hype going into one of these matches is always there because it’s always fun to see a big ass ladder match. They should just call it “Big Ass Ladder Match” and cut to the chase.
This one is different. They’ve been slowly dulling the interest every year. It used to be a chance for people to grow and shine, but it feels more and more like an excuse to put the same tired Main Eventers into a big match. It’s essentially “Elimination Chamber” but with a ladder. It’s the same main event people but in a different gimmick match. I’m sure it’ll still be exciting in the moment, but I’m not nearly excited. I’m not expecting to have many “moments” from the match that’ll be all that memorable come a year, month, or really even a week from now. Maybe I’m protecting myself by setting expectations so low that I won’t be too disappointed, but I’m honestly just hoping to stay awake long enough to make it through the three hour show.
The undercard is a bit sleepy. The match I’m most interested from the undercard is The Usos defending against The Wyatt Family. I am not a fan of the Usos. They are cheesy and their moveset is severely basic. They are put into a lot of six man tags for a reason. They can’t get over on their own. They seem like they use the word “dookie” or “dodo” . Weird? Yes. But that’s the level of lame I see them. I’d love to see the Wyatts win. So yeah, my pick is The Wyatts. Paige will beat Naomi. Stardust and Goldust will beat Rybaxel. Most likely we’ll see Rusev beat Big E. I’d like to see a Bo Dallas and a Adam Rose match added to the mix, but I won’t get my hopes up. I’d like to see a Fandango match as well. Maybe Titus too. There are some solid undercard guys that could be pushed and utilized some way or another.
They added a second ladder match. This one is for the case. It’s the mid card guys. I’d like to see Dean Ambrose or Dolph Ziggler win it, but why would I ever get to see that? In the past we’ve seen the likes of Jack Swagger win it. He’s in this again. I think he’s a waste on the roster. If they’re going to keep him he should be completely repackaged with a mask and a tag team partner. Because of how unimpressive and lame I think he is, I’m going with Swagger to win. In these cases I think it’s safe to assume the worst will happen. Swagger winning, hell Swagger participating in the match itself, is the worst part of this match.
The World Title Ladder Match is worrisome. You automatically have to consider that John Cena will win the title. I’d much rather see Bray Wyatt win the belt or even Cesaro as a dark horse. That’d be ideal, but I don’t think it’ll happen yet. Roman Reigns is getting tons of love going into the match, but I doubt they’ll pull the trigger on him until everyone is tired of him. He’s got tons of potential, but he’s not that great in the ring just yet and his promos are weak. He’s going to be huge, but he needs a slower rise. Alberto is a strange pick because he’s there. He is one of the most reliable wrestlers in the company and seems to get no love. Him winning wouldn’t bother me, but it won’t happen. Kane wouldn’t win because I see Daniel Bryan costing him the belt or he’d just flat out lose. Orton is always a trusty pick and a perfectly acceptable champion but I don’t think it’s something the fans would care for. Wyatt winning would rock, but it’s too cool to happen. This all leads me to think John Cena will walk out the champion.
Then there’s the Money In The Bank case. This leaves the whole thing as a big question. The “what if” of the winner coming out and cashing in would be an interesting twist. With that ANYONE could win and then lose to whoever wins the Money In The Bank. There is also the scenario of the winner being random and then they lose with the quickness. There is a chance that Kofi Kingston could win the Money in the Bank and then cash in to become WWE Champion. Yes… “a chance” unlikely, but it’s there!
