So Mad Men season four is officially in the books. I have to say that this might have been my second favorite season so far. I loved the early episodes of uncovering more and more of who Don Draper is/was and the look into the advertising concepts was awesome, but the show has evolved. It’s no longer just a fashionable show about the 60’s with random pop culture and old school quirks thrown at us like a school book. The character development of the main cast has been a great journey and the 60’s atmosphere is merely the background. Peggy is fighting for her fair share like many woman still are forced to. Womanizing is rampant, the chain smoking, the drinking on the job, and bad habits are all still there, but it’s not so much a gimmick but a life style. You can finally see past that stuff. This season started off weird and slowly built up to a complete show shift. Don gets engaged, Peggy gets pissed, Roger is becoming more hilarious as he comes more obsolete, Pete is the only work really busting his ass, Joan is still beautiful and conflicted, Betty is annoying as hell, the kids are fun, and the show is just clicking. People are going to complain about it, but this is good stuff. This is on its way to being one of the most consistent shows ever and easily one of the top three or so shows on television right now. If you’ve missed out on Mad Men do yourself a favor and catch up as soon as you can. You’re missing out on televised art.
