Am I the only one who thinks Luke Wilson is one of the most underrated actors out there today? He has had great performances in his work with Wes Anderson. He rocked it in Old School. He kicks ass in all sorts of smaller independent movies. He’s a fun guy to watch and cheer on. He deserves more attention for his great work. This is another piece of great work by Luke Wilson. He plays an everyday business man who gets caught up with two losers played by Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht. They come up with a technology to charge credit cards over the internet. This leads to massive money and massive drama. It’s like “The Social Network”, but it’s way sleazier and involves the Russian mob instead of Justin Timberlake playing the dude from MySpace. No, not “Tom”. Rounding out this cast, we also have James Caan, Kelsey Grammer, and the never un-cool Terry Crews. It’s a solid movie all around. I recall there being some controversy before it was released. They said an orgy scene was too graphic and had to be taken out. So in a form of what I thought was great viral marketing they put the clip up on a porn site. Sadly, none of this amounted to much. The movie had a twenty million dollar budget and only grossed $733,000 in its three weeks in theatres. Rough. Some movies just don’t have a chance. The story was interesting, the casting was good, the soundtrack is great, the direction good, and the buzz for it was there. It just didn’t pan out like it should have. I enjoyed it. It’s not the deep internet-inspired story that is “The Social Network”, but it doesn’t try to be. It’s a very solid movie. If you’re interested in business, mobsters, porn, good movies, or any actors involved… go for it. It’s far from being a waste of time. B+
