BY MIKEY MIGO
It’s hard to judge Despicable Me after seeing Megamind. The plots alllllllmost seem a little too close for comfort. In Megamind we have Will Ferrell playing a misunderstood evil villain. We come to find out all he needed was some love and to calm down a little. Guess what happens here? Steve Carell plays a super villain named Gru. He’s casually mean and a jerk, but a new young super villain shows up and upstages him with evil plans for evil things. Gru ends up adopting three little orphan girls in order to complete his big plan of evilness. Obvious moments of endearment ensue. There isn’t much to say here. It was okay for a kids movie. There wasn’t anything edgy or surprising to me, but I’m starting to give up on that notion in kids movies anymore. It’s really cutesy with the little cute and yellow minions, the cute little girls, and the cute antics of everything. Basically I’m saying,… it was cute. Yucky cuteness. It was amusing and what not. I can easily see why a child would love this movie, but anyone over the age of Basic Algebra should move on already. Steve Carell is really awesome in his voice work, but it’s not enough for me to ever want to watch this movie or even talk about it again. C
