BY MIKEY MIGO
For some reason I never paid attention to this movie. I’d see it coming on late at night, but I never stopped for it. I’ve read about it and have heard good things. I just never took the time to sit down with it. I wish I had watched it earlier, but it was still a fun movie. It’s a period piece set in 1983, the year of my birth. It’s a weird year for a movie, but the movie makes it work. ATM machines were just coming out and a group of lower class thug types get together and plan a big heist to rob an ATM. It stars Timothy Olyphant as the good-hearted criminal who wants to get money without any violence. He and his prison cellmate hook up with two others and the heist is in effect. Things go crazy and the movie gets more and more intense as it does funny. Stephen Eric McIntyre is awesome as “Bug” and Joe Anderson is cool as “Donnie”, but I was really impressed with the charisma of Rossif Sutherland’s “Billy” character. He was a big character, but all four of the main actors were. It was really good casting all around. I don’t understand how a movie like this can go so far under the radar. It should have had a big theatre run in America and gotten some backing. I think it would have been successful. I wonder if the fact that it’s a short movie is a problem. At the same rate, it’s only like 80 minutes so you don’t have too much to lose. It’s a good movie. It’s got action, comedy, charm, good characters, and it’s well made. If you’re a fan of Timothy Olyphant, dark comedies, heist movies, and just good movies then go for it. I’d recommend this for sure. B+
