"Cheech & Chong's Animated Movie"

Who doesn’t love Tina Fey and Paul Rudd? They’re two of the most lovable any enjoyable comedic performers alive right now. Paul Rudd is a trusty choice for any movie role. He’s consistently awesome and has been in every movie and television show ever made. The dude is just charming. Tina Fey is pretty much in the same boat except she doesn’t have the million movie list on her filmography. Her work on SNL and 30 Rock automatically makes her one of the “best female comedy performers ever”, but she’s more than a sex label. She’s blankly one of the best comedic people ever. No need to use a genre. She’s witty, relatable, and whatever the female version of “charming” is… she’s that too. This movie has both Tina Fey AND Paul Rudd so it has to be great right? Well, sorta. The tone is much more mature than I expected. I wasn’t expecting “Bridesmaids” or anything, but the tone to this movie is more comedic drama than comedy. I think I was expecting something a little sharper than “Date Night”. I’m not complaining. I just had to adjust my laugh expectations as the movie went on. The story revolves around Tina Fey, a clean-cut admissions offer for Princeton. Everyone wants in and she’s one of the filters to decide who’s in or not. She’s alone and her life is sucking until she meets Paul Rudd. Rudd plays a teacher at an alternative school, has an adopted child, and is really close to one specific teen. Rudd’s character connects the teen to Fey as he finds out she may be his biological mother. In the process, some love and laughs happen. It’s a romantic comedy. You know how these things work. The story is rarely ever that interesting. You watch because you get emotionally connected to the characters. These two are easy to connect to. The movie was a good experience. I’d not go out of my way to watch it again anytime soon, but it wasn’t bad at all. It was a little drab at points and felt a little long, but again I was expecting “Date Night” and not “It’s Complicated” for the 40-something. It’s a solid romantic comedy starring awesome people. I’d recommend it if you like good rom-coms, the stars, or if you’re looking for a good quiet movie to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon. B
